As promised, you are getting answers today. This time, I’ll tell you all about the garden: Do I own the land? Where is the garden? Why am I doing this? Do I have a master plan? Will I be getting….?

052 Preparing for a lot of mess

written by Kate on in all home year01

I’m about to make a big mess in my basement and kitchen. Let’s get some tools, and prepare for said mess. I wanted to take apart the kitchen the next day, so had to get anything out of the way that needed the kitchen intact.

050 Snowed in

written by Kate on in all home year01

Within a few days, winter arrived early and in full force. We went from winter wonderland to snowed in. I built a cart to cover and mulch my beds, but then the snow came. We went for long walks in the winter wonderland before the snow storm snowed us in–and I couldn’t even get to class.

After playing catch-up for weeks, I finally get to do some of the things I want to get to. The first snow falls in the forest outside, and I make the best of being stuck indoors–and actually get some things done.

On the last day of my four month’s off, I had some projects open. It was a day of firsts and seconds. I made cheese for the first time. I made candles for the second time (if you count my first pretty failed attempt). And then, I made a very special pizza.

037 It’s time for cold-weather meals

written by Kate on in all home year01

There is something special about meals made from scratch. Meals made from ingredients collected on our land give me this warm, cozy feeling. With the seasons changing, what we eat is changing, as well. It’s time for some cold-weather meals.

034 A basket full of pears

written by Kate on in all home year01

With the pantry low on stock, I can’t say no to a basket of pears. A basket of pears showed up on my table, so I took them home to dry. I forgot them under my shelf for a week, so I set out to “quickly” chop them up.
